Our 9:15am Contemporary Holy Eucharist is the place to be for kids!
What is Growing Together?
This is the cathedral’s takeon SundaySchool.
We call it “Growing Together” because that is what we are doing!
Theology with children involves listening as much as teaching, participating as much as observing.
The leaders teach and the children learn AND the children teach and the leaders learn.
This is how we grow together!
When & Where?
Each Sunday during the9:15 service.
Children gather at the beginning of the service upstairs in the beautiful Chapel of New Jerusalem (CNJ).
The children join their families and the rest of the congregation for communion.
What do we do?
We learn the stories and traditions of our faith together through ritual, song, symbol, story and hands on activity!
We have some multiage time of music and ritual before moving into age groups.
A team of thoughtful and dedicated adults mentor the children.
Each age group is unique and so each group is structured to capture the interest of each child.
The 4 & 5 year olds love stories and learning through play
The grade 1-2 kids are deep into stories of love and belonging … lots of drama & imagination in this group!
The grade 3-5 kids love projects and hands on messy stuff! They are also finding their way through the bible!
The middle & high school youth are becoming deep thinkers, exploring biblical themes of justice & mercy and discovering an active faith.
We also participate in seasonal celebrations and special projects.
Some of the children are involved in a “secret pal” program with members of the congregation and others make cards for elderly or sick parishioners who can’t come to church. We will all be preparing and presenting the annual Christmas Pageant!!! This is always a highlight of the year!
Who are the leaders?
We have a wonderful group of adult mentors who plan and lead the Growing Together program.
The mentors are adults who care about the nurture and guidance of children & teens.
The mentors have taken part in the Red Cross “Prevention in Motion” course and have had criminal record checks. The Cathedral is very serious about providing a safe church for all – especially our youngest members!
How can parents participate?
Parents are always welcome to come and see what is going on!
If parents are coming up regularly or if you think you might like to take on some leadership, we ask that you begin the screening process.
Our safe church screening is not difficult, but it takes a while.
What about participating in the service?
Children and youth are always an important part ofSundaymornings at the cathedral!
On the first Sundayof the month children and youth are encouraged to take on specific roles during the 9:15 service.
Older children and youth are also invited to become servers.
One more thing …
We know that family time is precious and that weekends are busy.
Whether you come often or occasionally, we hope your children find a place of care and belonging at “Growing Together”.
