Anglicanism: An Introduction – This five-week course will give an overview of Anglican history and theology, explain how we read the bible and use the Book of Common Prayer in our tradition, and talk about the way liturgy and sacraments form us. It is meant for newcomers to our faith, those who want a refresher on some basics, or long-time members who want to develop a common language and understanding for talking about the beauty and meaning of our Anglican tradition. Dean Jonathan will teach the class on five successive Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8 beginning March 11. The class will be offered via Zoom and recorded in case people miss a week and want to view it later. If anyone is considering being confirmed or received during the diocesan confirmation service on May 4th at the cathedral, this class is the appropriate precursor. Those interested in participating should email Dean Jonathan (thedean@christchurchcathedral.bc.ca).

This I believe: Modern Applications of an Ancient Faith – This year marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea, a place where the church fathers literally fought one another over doctrines like the trinity, the incarnation, and the role of the Holy Spirit, that today we ignore, avoid, or simply accept without concern for how they change the way we interact with the world around us. In this series, we will talk about how our ancient faith speaks to our modern concerns, how its tenets will shape our lives if we let them, and how we can see and engage our culture more deeply if we choose to do it faithfully. In short, we will discuss what we believe and why it matters in our current context. The class will be offered on the six Thursdays of Lent (March 6-April 10) during the noon lunch hour in the Chapter Room. Bring your lunch and be prepared to engage and discuss. No registration necessary.
