Bette was born and raised in new Westminster, BC. Her family church was St Mary the Virgin in Sapperton where she was baptized.
Better moved to Victoria in 1979 to pursue a career in the financial services field. After 10 years with a large Canadian bank, she became a Chartered Financial Planner with Investors Group and was appointed Division Director for 5 years before retiring after 25 years of service. She was also the Chairperson for the Canadian Association of Financil Planners (CAFP) Victoria Chapter, for 4 years.
Her volunteer contributions include serving as a Board member of Victoria AM Association (a tourism and hospitality organization), the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, and the church community of All Saint Anglican in View Royal.
When Bette's husband died in 2023, his funeral was held here at Christ Church Cathedral and since that time she has made the cathedral her Faith home. She considers it her honour to serve on the Cathedral Council.
