Ian Alexander has family roots in Victoria. He grew up on the Lower Mainland, studied at UBC and the University of Toronto, and spent 25 years working for CBC. In 2007, Ian and his wife, Marilyn Dalzell, returned to the West Coast, and have been active members of the Cathedral community ever since. His church-related roles over the past decade and a half include: server, reader, lay officiant (he particularly enjoys leading Choral Evensong), past chair of the Music Committee, warden, and member of Diocesan Council and Diocesan Synod.
Beyond the precinct, Ian is also active at the national level of the Anglican Church of Canada, having served on General Synod, the Council of General Synod, and the Communications Committee. He is currently leading projects for the Office of the General Synod, the Anglican Diocese of Toronto, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto, and Anglican Deacons Canada.
Ian maintains an active freelance consulting practice, specializing in strategic planning, organizational development, policy and communications counsel in the public, not-for-profit, media and cultural sectors. He has done international training and development work in the Middle East and Latin America. Ian currently sits on the board of the Royal & McPherson Theatres Society.
