Donna was born in Nova Scotia and lived there until she and her husband decided to move to Alberta. After a few years they moved to Whitehorse which became home until Donna retired and moved to Victoria in 2007. Their daughter was born in Alberta and their son was born in Whitehorse 2 years later. Donna’s background is education but for 15 years she worked in the retail business with her husband. At that time she was very involved with Whitehorse United Church as Sunday School Superintendent, member of council and treasurer. Her desire to return to education saw her complete a Diploma in Special Education at UBC, followed by a M.Ed. in counselling psychology at UVic. She
worked in the high school in Whitehorse, a few years in Special Education and the balance of her career as the Director of the Teen Parent Centre, a program for pregnant and parenting teens wishing to complete their education.
Since moving to Victoria, she has become involved with the James Bay Community Project, primarily helping seniors with their paperwork, decluttering, and as an income tax volunteer. Donna has also become more involved with the Cathedral, organizing funeral receptions, acting as sidesperson and more recently as the lead for Guild of St Matthew (a.k.a The Counters). She believes that being involved helps to connect with other members and feel a part of the larger church community.
