A group from Christ Church Cathedral is attending the spring pilgrimage, May 1-3, at Coventry Cathedral in the UK. The pilgrims are: Joash Fang, Juliet Beckwith, Caleigh Aalders, Martha McGinnis and the Rev'd Canon Jeannine Friesen. McGinnis and Friesen are members of the reconciliation group. Christ Church Cathedral joined the worldwide peace group, based at Coventry, and received its Cross of Nails in June 2019.
Jeannine is secretary on the board of Coventry Cross of Nails -Canada. She is an honorary assistant at the cathedral and was a military chaplain from 2009-2019, serving mostly with the Pacific fleet.
Martha sings in the parish and cathedral choirs, and serves on parish council and the reconciliation ministry. She works as an associate professor in the linguistics department at UVic, and helped to draft the cathedral’s application to become a partner in the Community of the Cross of Nails.
Joash regularly attends the cathedral and has served on parish council. He is a legal counsel for the BC Ministry of Attorney General's policy and legislation division, where he assesses legislative proposals and their anticipated impacts on First Nations groups.
Juliet is a choral scholar in the cathedral choir, and is currently in her third year at UVic studying social sciences, with a focus on environmental and women’s issues.
Caleigh is a former choral scholar at the Cathedral's evensong service. She is currently on a yearlong exchange to Brussels, where she is studying history and French before returning to UVic for the final year of her BA in English literature and environmental studies.
