On Sunday June 6, 2021, joining with churches from across the diocese, the tenor bell of Christ Church Cathedral was rung 215 times in memory of each of the indigenous children found buried on the grounds of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
Recognizing that gestures like these are largely symbolic, we at the Cathedral and in this Diocese remain committed to the ongoing journey of healing and reconciliation with the first peoples here, listening with intent to the truths that are told, and responding with action.
A national Residential School Crisis Line has also been set up to provide support for former students and those affected. People can access emotional and crisis referral services by calling the 24-hour national crisis line: 1-866-925-4419.
